Appreciation Post – Becky Hartman

Unfortunately, saying thank you seems to be an after thought more and more. So at least once a month, I will take a few minutes to publicly appreciate someone that has had an impact on me.

This round:  Becky Hartman

I believe I met Becky for the first time working together on the Agile Alliance conference – and for several years in a row.  She is now such a regular force in my life that I feel like I’ve know her for way more years then just a few.

I decided to dedicate this appreciation to Becky for a series of things. One, she is a really great listener along with having this ability to make you feel like not only are you not alone but she is in your corner.  Her ability to understand your pain, frustration, happiness, excitement, etc is just simply amazing.  Every time I share with her, I feel heard.

Two, she inspires me.  She is willing to say what most only think.  She is willing to challenge the status quo.  She is willing to ask questions.  She is willing to walk away.  She is willing to call things out for what they are or are not.  She is willing to do whatever it takes to help.

Three, she creates environments. Purple pride was heavily influenced by her – and she continues to rock the purple.  She made sure to show for my keynote and sit front row to laugh, smile, take photos, and generally support me.  I swear it was her laugh that I would hear first and then the rest of the crowd would join in.

So thank you for helping me to be a better person, for your friendship and for the laughs.  I’m very lucky.
